I honestly thought this was addressed in the Shinki 101.

To put it another way, the god directly telling the the shinki that 'this was true of you in the past' or 'this happened to you' will trigger the shinki's fall. The god obliquely saying 'I knew someone like that' or 'I know someone who this happened to' is passable.

This is what is stated in the Shinki 101, though if that is not clear enough we can try to reword it again.

To be honest, all we can really do is hope that people use their discretion and know that anything stated outright would be going too far. I hate to allow people to continue bending the rules more and more until they break.

I think the (admittedly very subtle) distinction is that in your example from Shinki 101, the God is obliquely saying "someone like that" instead of very specifically "and that someone is you". In the "I know you" discussion, it's very clearly about the Shinki themself. Same thing with "we used to be friends" -- that's not ambiguous at all, yet it was cleared as OK on plurk. I think that's where the confusion came up?

I think maybe it's best if left the way it is in the Shinki 101. After how things have played out in the time since my comment on Plurk, I'm afraid that giving more inches than this would result poorly for the game and the mod team in general.

I'm sorry if that seems flaky or weird, it's just such an odd mechanic that keeps getting warped more and more and I would very much like to find an even ground for it to stand on.

I don't blame you for feeling that way, honest. It's just taken as gospel now from the mouths of those who were around to see the post go up. (ex: I already said as much to Nagi that Schuldig knows him)

I have a follow-up suggestion then, to make an 'update' to your understandable feelings since making the plurk comment. As someone who admittedly didn't read much of Shinki 101 before apping a Shinki character, would you consider linking to that section (of Shinki 101) on the God 101 page? Like with an anchor tag maybe to just that section, labeling it on God 101 "and here's how you can talk to Shinki that you know". That would also make it clear this supersedes the previous remarks.

That is a very good suggestion. I'll talk to Kohaku about editing the God/Shinki 101s in order to make it easier for god players to understand as well.
