Legends of their potency have been somewhat inflated! (Or, perhaps, conflated with malicious cat-ayakashi....)

The nekomata present in the Heavens do have some minor unnatural abilities, such as moving small objects telekinetically, speaking, and walking on two legs when they want to, but they cannot transform into any other form, and they have no advanced magical powers such as necromancy or conjuring fires.
